French Myths up to the 21st Century

Understanding myths as collective narratives and enduring representations that inform a world view and a sense of community, this course examines some of the French literary creations and figures that became cultural icons, such as the Grail, the melancholy poet, the "Noble Savage," the "City of the Ladies," Asterix, or the famous "French touch." Looking at the fabric of memory, culture and literature, the course surveys the making of symbols and shared references and emphasizes the role of intercultural exchanges in the production of these myths.
