    The Thirty Years War

    Studies the bloodiest European conflict before the 20th century. Topics include why over sixty years of relative peace in Germany and Bohemia ended, the role of changes in military technology and combat tactics in prolonging the war, how the war affected the persecution of "witches" and the significance of the Westphalian peace process. Follows the careers of Gustavus Adolphus and Wallenstein, the decline of Spanish power and the rise of France and the Dutch Republic.
